Aftercare

I want you to get the very most from your hair replacement system. These aftercare guidelines will help you keep it in the best condition possible.

✓ Don't shampoo your hair system unless you really need to
✓ That means using only water-based / water-soluble products for styling your hair system
✓ Condition your hair system frequently
✓ You can help prevent colour fade and damage to adhesives by avoiding exposure to UV light / sunlight. Wear a hat!
✓ If colour refresh is needed, call me!
✓ Please do not try to colour your system yourself
✓ Using a satin or silk pillowcase at night can help prevent friction and reduce hair shedding from the system
✓ Use a detangling brush every day to prevent matting — do NOT use a comb
✓ Please keep to the refit schedule we have agreed
✓ Do not attempt to remove the system yourself
✓ Only use the recommended Hair Presence shampoo, conditioner and styling products

FAQs

How long will my hair system last?

You'll be given careful aftercare instructions. Follow them and your hair system should last 3–4 months… sometimes as long as 5!

How long will the hair system stay on my head before it needs refitting?

Hair replacement systems need to be refitted every 3–4 weeks, so make sure you can get to our Newbury salon. Occasionally you may be able to go as long as 5 weeks.

If you are highly active or have a physical job you may need a refit every 2–3 weeks. Refitting includes trimming of your natural hair and styling as necessary.

Can I wash my hair system as normal?

Yes … and no! Your hair system is carefully coloured to match your natural hair. Over-washing will lead to drying out the system and fading the colour.

We recommend shampooing no more than once a week — some people less. I'll go through the full aftercare and recommended products with you too.

What styling products can I use on my hair system?

The hair system is made of human hair, but since you will be shampooing much less it is important to use water-soluble styling and finishing products that rinse away easily. That means avoiding waxy or oily products.

Our own range of Hair Presence styling products is perfect and has been rigorously tested on hair systems.

What happens to my natural hair underneath the hair system?

In the time between refits, any hair under the system that grows is usually fairly insignificant and will be trimmed off when the system is removed during the refit.
